What will happen to the 2026 World Cup if US security worsens following Maduro's arrest?
The geopolitical escalation following the United States military operation which resulted in the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro sparked world concern, including its potential impact on the big agenda that the US will hold: the 2026 World Cup. However, the chance of moving the match from the United States is considered almost non-existent.
Former Soviet Union national team player, Vladimir Ponomaryov, confirmed that FIFA will not open the option of relocating the World Cup from June 11 to July 19 2026, regardless of the worsening security situation or international political pressure. According to him, the host's decision is final and will not be contested.
